Fulyach Festival – Festival of Flowers in Kinnaur
September 2026
Fulyach, also written as Fulaich or Phulaich, is one of Kinnaur's best-known traditional festivals. Often described as the Festival of Flowers, it brings together flowers, local religious traditions, music, dance and community gatherings during the autumn season.
The festival is closely connected with village life and local deities. In traditional celebrations, flowers and other offerings are taken from the high mountains and brought back to the community, where rituals and festivities continue with music, dancing and shared meals. Customs can differ from one village to another, so there is no single identical Fulyach experience across all of Kinnaur.
For travellers, the most rewarding part of Fulyach is seeing how closely culture and landscape remain connected. Traditional Kinnauri clothing, flower decorations, drums, dancing and gatherings can turn a village celebration into a memorable window into local life. Visitors should follow local instructions, ask before taking photographs of private rituals, and avoid treating sacred ceremonies like a staged performance.
Kalpa and Reckong Peo are convenient bases for exploring Kinnaur, but festival events are often associated with individual villages and local calendars. Dates and programmes can therefore vary. The best approach is to confirm the celebration locally through hosts, village representatives or district tourism information before travelling to a specific event.
Staying at Holasay Homestay gives visitors a comfortable base near Kalpa, while The Bait Cafe in Reckong Peo is a convenient place to enjoy local food before or after exploring the valley. Pairing a festival visit with time in the orchards and villages makes the autumn season one of the richest ways to experience Kinnaur beyond its mountain views.
